Fraudsters Like the Holidays
Fraudsters Like the Holidays
Fraudsters like when we are busy and in a rush to get everything done, so they can take advantage of us while we are distracted. That is why it is so important to slow down and take precautions during this hectic holiday season.
Lantz Financial places a priority on protecting your personal information and helping you keep your assets safe, as does Schwab. Schwab recently sent out a communication to all clients about fraudsters impersonating Schwab and other companies to access your accounts or devices. Please let us know if you have not seen this communication. We would be happy to share it with you.
During this month Schwab has also shared with us multiple bulletins on cybersecurity. Below are some highlights:
1. Imposters are posing as Schwab employees and contacting advisors and clients via phone, email, and text messages. Do not trust caller ID. Do not answer the call, call us instead.
2. Scammers are using search engine optimization to create fake websites that appear in search results to be a trusted institution. Always verify the legitimacy of the website before entering any information. It is best to bookmark the official websites of sites you use regularly instead of doing a search each time.
3. Avoid charity scams. Research the charity before donating. Visit the charity’s official website and donate online.
4. If a deal seems too-good-to-be true it probably is. Read reviews and research unfamiliar retailers before you buy anything.
5. Monitor your accounts for any unusual activity or unauthorized requests.
Stay vigilant and enjoy this holiday season.
